About Stratford Altadena:
Stratford Altadena Private Early Preschool – Middle School is nestled in a quiet, residential neighborhood, featuring 15 renovated classrooms, a multi-purpose room, a library, a field, and abundant outdoor play areas.
Our Altadena campus offers two specialty programs, Mandarin Bilingual Preschool and Early Preschool. Mandarin Bilingual Preschool is offered exclusively as a “five days per week” program to create a truly immersive environment with consistency and continuity. Stratford’s same rich Preschool curriculum is taught by a two teacher team, one speaking and instructing in Mandarin, and the other in English. The Early Preschool program starts at two years old and is also a “five-days per week” program. It serves as a stepping stone for children to develop new skills and get acquainted with a school environment. The program is designed to build children’s confidence and inspire joyful learning through exploration, inquiry, and discovery.
We invite you to tour our campus in Altadena, speak to our Head of School, Judy Burbank, and experience the Stratford difference. We look forward to meeting you and your child!
Messages from Judy Burbank, Head of School Altadena:
“Nothing warms my heart like a child that is excited about learning.”
- Judy Burbank - Head of School
Judy Burbank has over 20 years of experience in the field of education. Judy always looks forward to working with passionate faculty who foster curiosity and achievement in each student and who create a caring educational environment. Whether it’s singing a new song or learning about the solar system, Judy loves being a part of developing curiosity in children.
Teaching Philosophy and Academic Program:
At Stratford School, high expectations yield extraordinary results. Our advanced yet intentionally balanced curriculum starts as early as Preschool to inspire and nurture the minds and hearts of every student. From the outset, we simplify challenging concepts, then accelerate learning to enable students to study ahead of grade level, develop a love of learning, and prepare them for the future. Stratford's curriculum is created in thoughtful and meaningful ways to ignite curiosity, nurture exploration, and encourage inquiry.
From Preschool through Grade 8, Stratford’s curriculum is infused with sequential instruction in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics — “STEAM” — to help students develop a diverse set of problem-solving skills and talents they will need in today’s world. The school accomplishes this through a unique cross disciplinary approach that enhances critical thinking, integrates ideas from multiple subjects, and ultimately expands student learning.
The Stratford Difference:
Stratford combines traditional teaching styles with 21st century learning principles, intentionally integrates technology in engaging ways, and encourages confident thinking. Stratford also recognizes the importance of striking a healthy balance between the academic and personal lives of students, because the joy of learning extends well beyond classroom walls. Students are encouraged to participate in interests that allow them to explore their passions while providing a variety of extracurricular pursuits, personal development activities, physical education, and playtime.
Stratford teachers have the freedom to create dynamic, relevant lessons and projects. We use a variety of resources and personalized teaching techniques to generate opportunities for each student to learn in their own unique way. In this energized classroom atmosphere, students are highly focused and engaged as they learn, question, and collaborate
