4 Must-Ask Questions for
Parents Choosing The Perfect Summer Camp For Their Kids
Summer is just around the corner, and many parents are already planning their kids' summer activities, including day camps. Summer day camps offer a great opportunity for kids to have fun, learn new skills, make new friends, and create lasting memories. However, not all summer day camps are created equal, and it's important for parents to do their homework before choosing the right one for their children. Here are four things to consider when selecting a summer day camp.
Safety and Accreditation
Safety should always be the top priority when choosing a summer day camp for your child. Parents should ensure that the camp is accredited by a reputable organization, such as the American Camp Association, and follows the health and safety guidelines for emergencies and COVID-19. Parents should also ask about the camp's staff qualifications, background checks, and training. A good camp will have a thorough hiring process and provide ongoing training for its staff.
Activities and Schedule
Parents should consider what kind of activities the camp offers and whether they match their child's interests and abilities. Does the camp offer a wide range of activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, and nature exploration? Flow does the camp balance fun and learning? Parents should also know the camp's daily and weekly schedule, including the start and end times, the meals and snacks provided, and the transportation options. Make sure that the camp's schedule fits your family's needs and that you can drop off and pick up your child at the designated times.
Policies and Procedures
Parents should carefully read the camp's handbook or website and understand the camp's rules, expectations, and discipline methods. Make sure you know what the camp's policies are on communication, medication, refunds, and cancellations. If your child has special needs or requirements, make sure you discuss them with the camp director before enrolling your child.
Culture and Values
Parents should get a sense of the camp's mission, vision, and philosophy, and how they align with their own family's values. Does the camp promote diversity, inclusion, and anti-bullying efforts? How does the camp foster a positive and supportive environment for all campers? Talk to the camp director or read online reviews to get a sense of the camp's culture and values.
