About Mayfield Senior School

Mayfield Senior School is an independent, all-girls Catholic high school (grades 9-12) located in the heart of Pasadena. Mayfield fosters excellence in academics, athletics and the arts, and gives ample opportunities for students to discover their gifts. The school nurtures a community of faith, with a focus on serving others and deepening relationships with God, while celebrating the diversity inside our vibrant community. Mayfield empowers students to find their sense of purpose and belonging, as they become transformative agents of change.

Founded by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus (SHCJ), Mayfield's motto, "Actions not Words," comes from SHCJ founder Cornelia Connelly, and this speaks to the core of a Mayfield education. Head of School, Kate Morin, says, "At Mayfield, we strive to instill the qualities of justice, integrity, reverence and intellect because our young women will soon be the leaders this world so desperately needs."

A message from Head of School: Kate Morin

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Mayfield Senior School, where an incredible energy and sense of joy embrace our beautiful campus!

Mayfield Senior School Head of School Kate Morin

We are a school where the powers of faith, community and excellence create an irresistible place of discovery that draws us together with enthusiasm every day.

Our teachers are innovative, caring and fun, creatively engaging students so that they are captivated, curious and motivated. We know how girls learn best and we stretch their minds. With deep thought and care, we work to ensure that each student receives what she needs to be successful.

Yet these awesome qualities are not enough at Mayfield. As a Holy Child School, our educators must also live our mission "to help students believe that God lives and acts in them and in our world." In other words, at Mayfield we help our students know and feel that they are loved by God.

We teach our wonderful students to see themselves in control of their own destinies-powerful and strong. At Mayfield, we strive to instill the qualities of justice, integrity, reverence and intellect because our young women will soon be the leaders this world so desperately needs.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
Head of School

Teaching Philosophy & Academic Program

In the spirit of "Actions Not Words," Mayfield students learn by doing. They embrace learning with joy, and they dive headfirst into new subjects and activities with gusto, knowing they'll find the support they need.

Our Catholic, Holy Child philosophy calls us to rigorously educate each student with values-based learning that promotes independent thinking and strong written, verbal and analytical skills that are so needed in today's technology driven world. Our teachers are enthusiastic and make learning at Mayfield Senior School interactive, productive, and fun.

Team Sports

Mayfield Senior School's motto, "Actions Not Words," is nowhere more alive than in the dedication, discipline, camaraderie and sportsmanship of our athletes. Our varsity teams are highly competitive in 11 sports within the Prep League, a division of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), as well as in our CIF-SS (Southern Section) regional and CIF State divisions. Aside from the obvious benefits of keeping fit and active, participating in sports empowers students in many other ways. Student athletes learn to think on their feet, how to manage their time, how to work as part of a team, how to set and achieve personal goals, and how to bounce back from a loss or disappointment with grace. Sports offered: Badminton, basketball, cross-country, equestrian, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, volleyball, water polo.

Extra curricular activities

We dance, draw, paint, write, take stunning photos and sing our hearts out. We love to perform under a spotlight. The Conservatory is far more than an extracurricular activity. With rigor and excitement our UC-accredited courses unfold on stage, in studios and in hands-on workshops as Mayfield trains the next generation of artists and artistic thinkers. Including theatre, technical theatre, photography, vocal music, instrumental music, film & media, dance and creative writing.
